Vintage Design
These tables were commissioned by Liberty & Co and hand-carved in Japan. The firm imported Middle Eastern and Oriental goods sympathetic to the ideals of the Art movements in the late 19th Century. Some of these tables were flat packed and required putting together after their long journey to Liberty’s Regent Street store. There is no retailer’s label to the table.
The table is sinuously carved with leaf decoration and it is in very good original condition. It has been waxed polished. There is some very light movement down to the design. It has no damage or woodworm. The table has moved slightly with age, as you can see in the angle on the top in the 2nd photograph.
