Vintage Design
Rare Scandinavian 3-seater sofa model “Studio Open” designed by Torbjørn Afdal (1917-1999) for Bruksbo, Norway in 1965 and made by Sandvik & Co. This sofa is very beautifully made with an impressive sense of quality. The frame is made of rosewood and the cushions of black leather. The condition is still very good, the leather is also still very beautiful. The singles have been renewed and therefore the seating comfort is very good again. Torbjorn Afdal was one of Norway’s most gifted and prolific furniture designers. After graduating in 1946, he started his career as a designer at Bruksbo Tegnekontor and very quickly promoted to chief designer. His work is characterized above all by a refined understanding of material and form. The Bruksbo design office was one of Norway’s leading design offices for quality furniture for three decades. Material: rosewood and leather. Dimensions: h x w x d = 78 x 195 x 77 cm and the seat height is 46 cm. Source: Swedish magazine FORM, 1965, page 361 and book Norwegian Furniture 2, page 48.
